Assistant Professor (Diploma)

Are you currently working as an Assistant Professor or interested in a position as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Technical Sciences? Here you can read about the characteristics of the position at our faculty, and how you can develop your career.

Associate Professor/Researcher

The qualification requirement for the Assistant Professor position (as a Bachelor of Engineering teacher) is a Master's or engineering degree as well as three years of relevant practical experience or acquired a PhD degree. An applicant for the position of Assistant Professor (Bachelor of Engineering) must follow the formal requirements in the Guidelines for applicants - Bachelor of Engineering (link) and in the employment the applicant must meet the Criteria for permanent employment - Bachelor of Engineering (link). It is important that the candidate has demonstrated the ability to convey technical knowledge, e.g. through presentations, teaching or supervision of students in projects. Experience from industry or from research and development projects counts positively, but is not a requirement. It is also an advantage if the candidate has participated in networking activities such as guest lectures, examiner work or collaboration with external partners. Additional experience such as publications, patents or fundraising can strengthen the application, but are not necessary. It is expected that you complete teaching pedagogy (https://ced.au.dk/kurser/universitetspaedagogikum).

Employment as an Assistant Professor takes place after an advertisement for an Assistant Professor/Associate Professor position. The positions are usually permanent full-time positions. Before the end of the 3rd year of employment, a written assessment of the Assistant Professor's qualifications must be submitted with a view to transition to an Associate Professor position. In the assessment, an overall assessment must be made of the qualifications obtained, both in terms of teaching and in terms of the academic level. If the assessment is positive, the job title of Associate Professor is assigned.

If an applicant for an Assistant Professor position has acquired special qualifications of importance for the performance of the position, but is not qualified to be immediately employed as an Associate Professor, the Assistant Professor appointment may take place for a shorter period of time than usual, and the Associate Professor assessment will take place at an earlier date than in accordance with the general rules. As a general rule, however, in these cases, it must be required that the person in question works as an Assistant Professor for at least 1 year prior to employment as an Associate Professor.

What does it take?

Our criteria for evaluating candidates describe the entry criteria that the Faculty of Technical Sciences uses when assessing candidates for different types of scientific positions:

These criteria can be used both for a dialogue between you and your leader and for a dialogue between a (potential) candidate for a position.
