An Associate Professor position at the Faculty of Technical Sciences is a senior position. Here you will find information on how you can continually develop your career and skill set with respect to both research, public sector consultancy, supervision, and education.
An Associate Professor/Senior Researcher position is a senior and by default a time-unlimited position, with research, research based policy advice, and research-based education as main responsibilities.
Most often an Associate Professor/Senior Researcher has extended experience from international scientific environments before entering the position, and many of them collaborate with private companies or engage in entrepreneurial activities. Compared to a professor position, an Associate Professor/Senior Researcher position typically involves fewer and less heavy management tasks, and the entry requirements, in particular with respect to leadership in research, public sector consultancy and teaching, are lower. The Faculty of Technical Sciences uses this set of criteria to assess candidates for an Associate Professor/Senior Researcher position.
We support Associate Professors/Senior Researchers in developing their skills and career opportunities. This includes a leadership programme for research managers, training with respect to coordinating major EU grant applications, support for spin-out activities, and more. Besides, Associate Professors - in very exceptional cases can be retained via the professor promotion programme: (look under "Principles for appointment" - Programme for promotion to professor).
Our criteria for evaluating candidates describe the entry criteria that the Faculty of Technical Sciences uses when assessing candidates for different types of scientific positions:
These criteria can be used both for a dialogue between you and your leader and for a dialogue between a (potential) candidate for a position.
As part of your career development dialogue you must discuss teaching in the broad sense, meaning not only traditional classroom teaching, but many different kinds of dissemination.
The Teaching Portfolio is a tool to support the discussion of teaching in Staff Development Dialogues. It is relevant for all lecturers at Tech but mandatory for permanently employed Assistant Professors, Researchers, Tenure Tracks, Associate Professors, Senior Researchers, Professors and Senior Professor of Engineering.
