Bright sunshine marks the start of the academic year at AU Viborg
Wednesday was a big day as second-year students arrived for the start of term at AU Viborg. A total of 90 new students have begun their studies in Animal Science, Plant and Food Science, and Veterinary Medicine.
AU Viborg was looking its best as the new, expectant students in Animal Science, Plant and Food Science, and Veterinary Medicine arrived for the beginning of the academic year. At the main entrance, they were welcomed by 17 enthusiastic tutors who have spent the past several months preparing to greet their new fellow students.
After a shared welcome session and name games in the sunshine, the students were given a tour of the campus where their daily lives will unfold over the next three to five years. And the first impressions are positive, according to two of the new students:
“It’s been lovely – it feels pleasantly small and safe, and I haven’t sensed a big gap between lecturers and students, which is something you might worry about at university,” says Olivia Ingemann, who is starting her studies in Animal Science. Today, she found a seat in the large lecture theatre as part of the Hedgehog Group, alongside Tobias Thomassen, who is also studying Animal Science.
“I’m most looking forward to feeling the passion that the lecturers surely have and will share with us students. And I’m excited to connect theory with practice – it seems the facilities here really support that,” he says.
Dean Eskild Holm Nielsen also visited AU Viborg to welcome the new students. In his speech, he emphasised that the students’ skills will be in high demand once they complete their education.
“There is a real need for you – especially in relation to the green transition and the work to ensure health and welfare for both people and animals. Not only here in Denmark, but across the rest of the world, we need people who can help build a more sustainable society.”
