START welcomes a new research Hub to the community

START - Center for Sustainable Agrifood Systems - begins the new year by creating a new research Hub. The Hub will provide a space for research collaboration on genetic adaptation in animal and plant breeding.

Under the auspices of START, researchers from Aarhus University, the University of Copenhagen and Aalborg University have just established a new research Hub to accelerate the sustainable transition of agricultural and food systems with a focus on genetic adaptation in animals and plants. The title of the new Hub is “Genetic Adaptation for Future Agrifood Systems under Planetary Boundaries”.

"At the core of future agrifood systems are a range of biological organisms whose characteristics are defined by their genetics. The new Hub will improve these future systems by working on the genetic adaptation," says Mogens Sandø Lund, Center leader at the Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics at Aarhus University.

The Hub will be presented at the upcoming START Annual Meeting, which will be held at Copenhagen Business School in Copenhagen on March 19-20, 2024.

What is a research hub?

START is a unique collaboration between the eight Danish universities and serves as a collaborative platform for researchers within the green transition of our agricultural and food systems. START carries out activities to strengthen interdisciplinary research collaboration in the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, with the aim of accelerating the green transition.

START now includes ten research hubs, all with different relevant themes. In each hub, the associated researchers have an open forum for discussion and collaboration on future opportunities in the transition to a more sustainable agricultural and food system.
