Ulrik Wilbek on AU Viborg: Great potential and fantastic results
An engine of development in Viborg Municipality. That is how Ulrik Wilbek describes AU Viborg as he takes stock before he passes on the job as mayor to his successor.
After eight years in office, Ulrik Wilbek is soon ready to pass on the mayoral chain of Viborg Municipality to his colleague Katrine Fusager Rhode. But before leaving the corner office on the fourth floor of the town hall in Viborg, he has agreed to share a few words about AU Viborg. Several times, he has highlighted AU Viborg as one of the projects he is particularly proud of.
“It has been an incredibly exciting journey of collaboration between Viborg Municipality, Aarhus University, and the various other partners involved. And today we are seeing some fantastic results,” says Ulrik Wilbek, continuing:
“The entire hub at Aarhus University in Foulum is growing. Now it is also being surrounded by energy parks and industrial parks, while Apple is also located there. So there are enormous opportunities for growth and implementation. And that is what I have seen from day one as a huge opportunity for Viborg Municipality,” says Ulrik Wilbek.
Ulrik Wilbek has no doubt that he will continue to follow the project from the sidelines once he steps down as mayor. According to him, AU Viborg is central to recruitment, settlement, and the overall development of the municipality, and to Viborg becoming a university town:
“I hope that the new city council will take just as much care of the project as we have done in the councils I have led. For AU Viborg is, as I see it, Viborg Municipality’s engine of development. We have plenty of good things here in Viborg, and we create a lot of culture and many different events, but of course there must also be people who come to those events.”
