Veterinary student from AU Viborg welcomed the Crown Prince to Royal Run

On Monday 9 June, the Royal Run took place in five cities across the country. In Viborg, Aarhus University (AU) played a special role as veterinary student Josephine Møller Sørensen hosted a visit from the Crown Prince.

The sun was shining, flags were waving, and the wind was tugging at the large oak tree by Viborg Cathedral as veterinary student Josephine Møller Sørensen from AU Viborg welcomed the Crown Prince to the Royal Run. Shortly afterwards, the two lined up at the start of the race, which this year had 17,497 participants in Viborg and 97,786 nationwide.

Having crossed the finish line, the veterinary student was ready to reflect on a day a bit out of the ordinary.

“It’s been an absolutely fantastic day, a great experience, and so cool to feel the atmosphere here. It’s really been a good day,” said Josephine Møller Sørensen, and continued:

“Right now, I’m actually on study leave – I’ve got an exam the day after tomorrow – so I need to go home and read. But it’s been amazing to have a little break and come out here and give it my best with everyone else who’s been a part of this.”

Founder the Student House running club

One of the reasons Josephine Møller Sørensen was invited to host the Crown Prince at the Royal Run is that she initiated a running club at Viborg’s student house, Vesterbro 10. Here, up to 20 students meet every other week to run together and then enjoy coffee and cake.

Among the members of the running club is Olivia Berg, who studies Animal Science at AU Viborg. She also had a great experience at the Royal Run:

“It was super cosy, and I love how much people are into this. There are all kinds of groups – small ones, big ones – I ran alongside someone who was maybe four years old, and two minutes later I saw someone who must’ve been eighty or something. It’s just so cool. And everyone’s in such a good mood along the way,” she said.

AU Viborg and its students were also present in the shared Friday bar area for higher education institutions at Banebyen. There, people relaxed, socialised, and cheered on the runners.
