New research support team at Tech is ready to help

The new research support unit, Tech Research Support, is ready to help departments to attract more research funding to the faculty. You are welcome to contact them whenever you need advice at any point in the process, from initial idea and final application.

The new organisation for research support at Aarhus University commenced from January this year. This means that AU's central research support unit now only handles EU applications and a few specific foundations. On that background, Tech has established Tech Research Support consisting of Torben Juul Classen, Karin Lykke and Kirstine Abild. Tech Research Support supplements the institutes' scientific coordinators.

The three new employees in Tech Research Support are currently conducting a series of introductory meetings at departments and centres in collaboration with the local scientific coordinators. These local coordinators will continue their important work to provide local research support at departments and centres.

"Our work with the scientific coordinators is crucial, because the coordinators have deep knowledge and close contact with the research groups. Therefore, our task is more to ensure knowledge sharing and synergy across the faculty, to help improve our common funding-related expertise, and to act as a value-creating link between the departments and the vice-dean or out to the foundations. We’re currently identifying how we can best support departments and centres. So we’re also looking forward to many good conversations with the specialist environments that can help us learn more about this," says Torben Juul Classen and continues:

"We’ve got a wide range of research-support competencies on the team. This means that we can provide advice and quality assurance for applications, and we can help departments, centres and individual researchers further in the process towards successful funding. And if we at the unit can’t help, we know exactly who to go to," says Torben Juul Classen and concludes:

"So you shouldn't hesitate to contact us if you have any question at all about fundraising. Perhaps you've just had a great idea, you need some final feedback on your application, or you have some other question. The way we see it, it's better to contact us once too often than once too little - and better too early in the process than too late."

The new organisation in brief

The academic coordinators at department level will continue to provide subject-specific research support locally.

Tech Research Support is responsible for overall research support tasks that are relevant across departments, for example in connection with applications to major foundations such as the Novo Nordisk Foundation or the Villum Foundation.

The AU Research Support Unit will continue to deal with EU applications as well as a few other specific foundations.
